Poweshiek County is located in Central Iowa. It is named for the Native American Chief who ended the Black Hawk War.

The largest city and seat is Grinnell. It borders Tama, Iowa, Keokuk, Mahaska and Jasper Counties.

Main roads include I-80, US-6, US-63, IA-21 and IA-146.
